The initial objective of this 2004 tsunami disaster site was to provide information on aid and relief efforts to which we experienced great success through the help of volunteers and the media. We have since shifted the site's focus to cover the post-tsunami aspect of the disaster as many of these tsunami affected countries are great holiday destinations where revenue from tourism and shopping are just as vital to their full recovery.

News - Volunteers needed at POHD
Wwith reference to my post below.

POHD, which is co-ordinating the collection of donated items, need volunteers today at 12.30pm to load all the items to trucks. If you happen to be around town today, do drop in and offer your help. I'll be there at 12 noon.

As POHD is still open to collection until 7th Jan., items will still be coming and therefore they need volunteers everyday to sort out the donated items. Contact the tel. no. found in the post below.

A friend and I went to the POHD centre today. There were easily more than 50 volunteers who showed up,all eager to help and do their bit for the tsunami victims. It was a very heartwarming sight and I felt proud to be a Malaysian. Chinese,Malays,Indians and even a few Caucasians, people of different religions and race were sweating and puffing loading the boxes onto the container. Malaysian's are truly a caring lot!

glad to note that you both of you (and friends) were there. yes there were more than 50 volunteers turning up. i was there from 12.30 to 4.00pm. can't recognise you people, so won't know if you two are there. :)

after the loading of the items to the truck, i stayed back to sort out the clothes.

joachim from the POHD, said that, that shipment will be sent to sri lanka (but go through KL first) but the rest of the shipment will be sent to acheh directly. POHD is still accepting donations of items, esp. food and medical supplies. oh and they still need volunteers to sort out the items and packed the items.
